Tools for dealing with fakes in traditional and new media: similarities and differences will be discussed at the third GFCN educational webinar.

The Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN) invites to its third open online seminar on December 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM. This session will focus on the tools for countering fake news across both traditional and new media. Participants will learn about the key similarities and differences in how these media types operate.
Three experts from Russia, the United States, and Algeria will speak at the webinar:
- Elizaveta Kazakova, Assistant to the Director General for International Relations at TASS, will present on «TASS News Agency’s Experience Combating Fake News: A Case Study.» She will explain the Russian news agency’s practical methods for identifying and debunking disinformation.
- Christopher Helali, a journalist and geopolitical analyst from the United States, will address the topic «The World of Classic and New Media: Similarities and Differences in the Fight Against Fake News.» His presentation will contrast classic and new media, arguing that while Western outlets often claim to confront a distorted information agenda, they are frequently complicit in its creation.
- Rima Rouibi, an academic researcher and lecturer at the Higher School of Journalism in Algiers, will examine how fake news is combatted in Africa. She will highlight the local specifics of fact-checking and provide an African perspective on the dynamics between traditional and new media.
As a reminder, due to the censorship and ban of the GFCN account by Zoom, the free online seminars on digital literacy will now be broadcast on a new platform.
The webinar will begin at 12:00 PM (UTC+3) and will be held online in English. Participation is free and open to all interested parties via the link.
The first two educational webinars were successfully held on November 25 and December 2, attracting over 700 participants. All of the Association’s online seminars are dedicated to improving digital and media literacy worldwide.
