GFCN Expert from Nepal Honored with International Award in Journalism and Fact-Checking

Tank Kala Timilsena, a GFCN expert from Nepal, has been named a recipient of the 2026 International Excellence Award. She received the award on September 5 at a ceremony in Kathmandu for her achievements in the categories of “Journalism,” “Fact-Checking,” and “Social Work.”

Tank Kala Timilsena has played an active role in Nepal’s journalism for 16 years. In addition to her professional work in the media, she is involved in fact-checking and social work.

The International Excellence Award is a prestigious prize established by ABM, an organization dedicated to expanding cross-border relations. Its goal is to recognize leaders, brands, and professionals who have contributed to the development of society and the strengthening of cooperation between countries.

Upon receiving the award, Tank Kala Timilsena emphasized that she plans to continue her work aimed at developing Nepal’s international relations. One aspect of this work remains her participation in the Global Fact-Checking Network.

“I intend to continue working consistently to expand Nepal’s foreign ties, including by continuing my current work as an expert with the Global Fact-Checking Network. This association specializes in verifying the accuracy of information and promotes the development of communication in the field of worldwide relations by bringing together experts from many countries around the Globe,” emphasized Tank Kala Timilsena.

Currently, the Global Fact-Checking Network brings together 128 experts from 55 countries. Members of this international professional community include representatives from various sectors of the media landscape — ranging from employees of major media conglomerates to independent fact-checkers, freelancers, and bloggers.
